TERSANE Art Gallery

Tersane Art Gallery was founded in November 2020 by printmaking and photography artist Arif Ziya TUNÇ. In the context of aesthetic concern and plastic structuring that has accumulated since 1970, original printmaking and photographs are produced by the artist, exhibited and presented to collectors in the gallery. It is a rare place where art talks and criticisms take place with art-loving friends at home and abroad. (By the way, coffee is free…) It is also in a very easy location in terms of transportation. Who is Arif Ziya, the founder?

The artist, who was born in 1953 in Elazig, graduated from GEE, Painting Department in 1974. He completed his academic career by completing his Art Doctorate at Dokuz Eylül University, GSF. He became Associate Professor in 2006 and Professor in 2011.

He has held 20 personal exhibitions so far. He participated in competitive State and Private Exhibitions and International Printmaking Biennials. He won the “Achievement Award” at the State Competition Print Painting Exhibition twice.

Especially in his recent photographs, it is seen that he is in search of expressive compositions, which he creates by forcing the digital possibilities and reminiscent of peinture. It is seen that the artist approaches photography and printmaking with the same aesthetic concern and understanding of plastic structuring. He believes that the digital environment develops the language of photography, increases the possibilities of expression, and provides more opportunities for artistic creativity, but he also argues that this digitalization should not spoil the essence of photography.

His articles on photography and printmaking have been published in peer-reviewed and periodicals. He has given many presentations and talks on printmaking and photography in academic and private environments at home and abroad.

The artist, who has translation books from English to Turkish, is a faculty member of Buca Education Faculty and D.E.Ü.  retired in 2019 while was a member of the Senate. www.arifziyatunc.com
